PLANT GARLIC CLOVES
Garlic is a hardy plant and does best when planted in mid autumn. This allows them to put down some roots into the "still warm" soil before winter falls. Then in spring, garlic will come to life again ready to grow throughout the remainder of the year.

WATER WHEN NEEDED
Normally from October onwards raised beds do not need watering. However, keep your eye out for unusually warm weather and water the remaining crops when required. Any plants still in containers may well also need watering. Read our detailed article on watering raised beds and containers here.

In particular, if you have been growing potatoes for Christmas in containers, then these will almost certainly still need watering in October.
